DubCasting revolves around the spirit of dub music, blending the conscious sounds of roots dub with the ongoing advancements of future dub influenced sounds.
The impact of dub music and soundsystem culture upon the world of music, especially here in Britain, is profound. Original pioneers coming from the small but powerful island of Jamaica back in the 1960s creatively constructed a mindblowing new sound, using the B side of reggae pressings to present a new mix of the tune, the dub mix, stripped down to the rawest elements, the drum and the bass, awash with all manner of effects and cyclical melodies, subtly circling the bass leading to higher levels of meditation.
The sounds of dub were infectious and far reaching. Dub soon evolved and gained recognition as its own genre and has progressed to influence future styles of music; most notably upon trip hop, jungle, techno and dubstep, and more subtly upon almost all musical forms. Some say this increased popularity has saturated dub music, that future dub has lost it’s roots. Roots of creative inspiration, deep meditation, positive vibrations, collective celebration and greater consciousness. Others say the roots are still there, just in a different form. DubCasting aims to celebrate the old styles and embrace the new. Selectors, DJs, producers, musicians, visual artists, singers, soundsystems, dancers, rappers, poets and story tellers all come together, electronic and traditional instruments combine, giving way to a shape shifting innovative show of bass music that investigates the meaning of the word dub.
Bringing roots to the future and a future to the roots.
